drying cat-o-nine tails

At least I think that's what they are called. The long, velvety end plant that usually grows in a marshy area. I know that if they are brought in and warmed they have a tendency
to burst. I need some for an arrangement in June and I have found a large patch of them near my office. Is it possible to dry them by June, and if so, how do I do it. Thanks
(new to this drying thing)
